The Domaine de l’Amauve is in the heart of the Ardennes, north-east of Avignon. This ten hectare family business lies within the commune of Séguret. The vineyard is parcelled out across 23 vine fields which is typical of the Provence region.
Centuries of wine-making
Séguret was first developed as a wine-producing area in the thirteenth century. Initially it was under the control of the Counts of Toulouse, followed by the Princes of Orange.
Domaine de l’Amauve’s rich heritage
The Domaine de l’Amauve has been the property of two old Provençal families for several generations. These families were united when Aline and Louis married in 1952. One of their sons, Christian Voeux, took on the property after they retired. He had been working as an oenologist and winemaker at the famous Châteaux Redon and La Nerthe in Châteauneuf du Pape. Christian now applies his knowledge to his family vineyard, from vine growing to wine making and the ageing process.
The wines are made with traditional varieties of vines. The hand-harvested crop is a small one. Winemaking is carried out carefully, in small tanks. Temperature control helps extract the best from the grape. Bottling is carried out with the minimum number of interventions in order to keep the wine’s qualities.
A rose by any other name…
The property is named after the mauve mallow flowers which bloom around the vineyard in the springtime. Their floral scent and soft colours transform the landscape. It’s a beautiful spot which produces some exceptional wines.
