Château De Lascaux

Part of the Pic Saint Loup Coteaux du Languedoc appellation, the Château de Lascaux vineyard is subject to both Mediterranean and continental influences. It is located between Montpellier and Nîmes. Around its 85 hectares lies an immense garrigue forest of oak, Aleppo pine, and herbs such as laurel, thyme and rosemary.

An unusual spot

The vineyard is sheltered from the cold winds of the Mistral and Tramontana by the foothills of the Cévennes. The hills encourage rain which leads to a long, slow ripening of the grapes. This cool Mediterranean micro-climate explains the finesse and diversity of their wines.

The proximity of the garrique forest can be noted in the aromatics of wines produced by Château de Lascaux. You can definitely detect the presence of the local rosemary, laurel and thyme.

As different as night and day

At the end of the summer, when the grapes ripen, there is a significant difference in daytime and night time temperatures. This contributes to the creation of some very fine wines.

Thirteen generations

The vineyards of Château de Lascaux have been in the family for thirteen generations. Owner Jean-Benoît Cavalier has been pivotal in creating its current incarnation. Since taking over in 1984, the winery has more than quadrupled in size from the original 20 hectares. Now almost 85 hectares are covered in vines of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. There is also a small quantity of Cinsault grapes.
